FG Says Electric Tricycles Will Cut Insurgents’ Access to IED Materials in North-East
The Federal Government says electric mobility projects in the North-East will reduce insurgents’ access to petrol and other materials allegedly used to make improvised explosive devices. The North-East Development Commission has procured 3,700 electric tricycles to move passengers and farm produce from remote communities to markets. It has also acquired 285 electric taxis, while charging stations across the region are expected to be commissioned soon. The government says the scheme is intended to revive local economic activity, create youth jobs and reduce transport difficulties for communities affected by insurgency. A separate surveillance system is also being developed to gather intelligence from highways, markets, schools and other public places for security agencies.
