Rufai Oseni Questions Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Cash Grants to Kogi Constituents
Arise TV presenter Rufai Oseni has criticised Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s decision to distribute cash grants to constituents in Kogi Central, questioning whether handouts are an effective way to support local businesses. The programme was held on November 2, 2026, to mark her third anniversary in the 10th National Assembly. Grants reportedly ranged from ₦100,000 to ₦5 million for farmers, tailors, content creators, manufacturers and other small-scale entrepreneurs. The public distribution drew mixed reactions. Some critics argued that cash handouts may not provide lasting solutions to poverty and could encourage political dependency. Akpoti-Uduaghan defended the approach, saying some beneficiaries of earlier programmes sold equipment such as sewing machines to meet other needs. She said cash gives recipients the flexibility to buy stock and materials, expand their businesses or start new ones.
