Lagos Socialite Sentenced to 45 Years for Cocaine Trafficking
A Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced businesswoman and socialite Funmilola Arike Ogbuaya, popularly known as Ariket, to 45 years in prison for cocaine trafficking-related offences. The case began after NDLEA operatives arrested a courier at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in February 2017. The agency said 1.595 kilogrammes of cocaine was found in the courier’s luggage while she was preparing to travel to Saudi Arabia. The court convicted Ogbuaya on counts including conspiracy, unlawful possession, procurement, and aiding drug trafficking. The sentences will run concurrently. NDLEA has also begun forfeiture proceedings against properties, businesses and bank balances allegedly linked to the drug operation.
