Eight Nigerians Arrested in Ghana Over Alleged Beating Linked to Internet Fraud Ring
Ghanaian police have arrested eight Nigerian nationals accused of assaulting a 21-year-old Nigerian man in Kotokrom, Sunyani West Municipality, Bono Region. Police said the victim was found with multiple marks of assault after officers responded to a distress call on October 4. The suspects allegedly told investigators that the beating was part of an initiation process for an internet fraud operation. Police said the group had undergone a similar process before joining the alleged scheme. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects allegedly posed online as foreign military personnel stationed in Yemen to deceive victims and obtain money. The funds were reportedly sent to a man police described as the group's chairman. The suspects have been arrested, while police have not yet confirmed whether formal charges have been filed.
