LAWMA Rolls Out 24-Hour Waste Evacuation Drive Across Lagos

The Lagos Waste Management Authority has stepped up a 24-hour cleanup exercise to clear refuse from major roads, bus stops, medians, markets and bridges across several Lagos local government areas. Teams targeted key corridors in Marina, Ikeja, Oshodi, Epe, Coker, Mushin and Alimosho, among others. Crews removed built-up waste at landmarks like UBA Roundabout, Freedom Park, FAAN Shopping Complex and various bus stops along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu ordered the scale-up to ensure cleaner public spaces and improve environmental sanitation across the state.

Definitely, keeping rubbish moving day and night should ease clogged drains and cut down disease pockets for better community health.

It's impressive that LAWMA is targeting key corridors day and night, but past drives seemed to lose momentum after a week or two.

I'm not sure non-stop cleanups without public cooperation will keep Lagos roads clean long term.

Residents could organize local monitoring teams to report overflowing bins and illegal dumping during this round-the-clock operation.
