INEC Flags 268 Voter Records Over Suspected AI Photos, Other Irregularities
INEC says its Automated Biometric Identification System has flagged 268 entries in the preliminary Register of Voters over suspected AI-generated photographs and other irregularities. The commission said it is reviewing the records and removing entries confirmed to be fraudulent. However, voters whose genuine photos were merely enhanced by AI tools will not be automatically excluded. The issue emerged after suspicious images and alleged duplicate entries circulated online following the publication of the preliminary register. INEC said the register is still open to claims and objections, and it will complete verification and cleanup before the final register is certified in December 2026.
