Soldiers and Civilians Feared Dead After Bandit Raid in Kwara's Kemanji Community

A fresh bandit attack hit Kemanji community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State around 3 a.m. Residents and soldiers are feared dead after gunmen stormed the village under cover of darkness and opened fire. This incident follows a series of violent raids in the area. In April, suspected bandits killed five National Forest Guard members in Nuku village and set patrol vehicles ablaze. In February, gunmen struck Woro and Nuku, leaving over 200 dead and abducting about 176 people, including women and children. Security forces, including the Nigerian Army and local vigilantes, engaged the attackers in a two-hour gun battle. A local source said an explosive device was launched at a military formation before the assailants advanced into the community. Casualty figures remain unclear as officials continue assessments. Residents have fled in fear, and local youths have urged a halt to political activities as the community mourns. Leaders are calling for urgent action to address the worsening insecurity in Kaiama.
