Access Bank Overtakes FirstBank with 554 Branches Across Nigeria
Nigeria’s leading banks are proving that physical branches still matter despite the rise of mobile and USSD banking. A recent industry report shows Access Bank now operates 554 branches nationwide. This edges out FirstBank, which has 550 branches. Zenith Bank follows in third place with 406 branches. The data also highlights total asset sizes. Access Bank tops the list with over ₦51.5 trillion in assets. Ecobank and UBA each report assets above ₦30 trillion. While fintech and digital wallets grow, traditional banks continue to invest in branches to serve communities where cash remains king. Do you think digital banking will ever make physical branches obsolete?
