Imam Warns Northern Nigeria Could Need Decades to Recover After a Breakup
A northern imam has warned that Northern Nigeria could face decades of hardship if the country breaks up. In a viral video, he argued that the region is less prepared economically and socially than other major regions. He blamed northern leaders for persistent poverty and insecurity. He said promises to improve security have not stopped Boko Haram, ISWAP, Lakurawa, banditry and kidnappings. The imam also questioned expectations that the North will improve by 2026 or 2027, saying the region needs deeper reforms. In my view, recovery could take far longer than 50 years if the underlying problems are not addressed.
