Ekiti IGR Rises 33% to ₦2.75bn as State Pushes Voluntary Tax Compliance
Ekiti State generated ₦2.75 billion in internally generated revenue in June 2026, up from ₦2.06 billion in June 2025, according to the Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service. The 33.2% increase came despite the suspension of roadblocks and business-premises closures for tax enforcement since July 2025. EKIRS said digital collection tools, improved PAYE and withholding-tax compliance, and wider voluntary participation helped sustain monthly collections at about ₦2.74 billion since April. The agency aims to exceed its ₦3 billion monthly target before the end of 2026 by expanding the tax base rather than raising rates. The service is also developing a central billing platform with government agencies and local councils to reduce multiple taxation. Taxpayers disputing assessments for 2024 and 2025 were advised to submit written objections within 30 days, as provided under the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025.
