Oyo Families Reject Relief, Demand Safe Return of Kidnapped Schoolchildren
Families of pupils and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State turned away rice and cash offered by government visitors, insisting their loved ones must be freed first. A community leader speaking to a national news outlet said parents made it clear they did not want relief materials. The Baale of Yawota, Emmanuel Alade, described seeing unfamiliar individuals approach before gunshots rang out and children were seized. “They said what they wanted was for their children to be released,” he recalled. Since the attack more than two weeks ago, security agencies have visited the area and stepped up operations. The state governor and a federal delegation of top security chiefs have met families and vowed to deploy every available resource to secure the hostages’ safe return.
