15-Year-Old Ado-Ekiti Student Wins 2026 StarGirl Playwriting Prize
Ayodele Angel Oluwafisayomi, a 15-year-old SS3 student of Divine Touch International School in Ado-Ekiti, has won the 2026 StarGirl Playwriting Prize. Her winning play, “Before You Say No,” follows Bose, a science-loving teenage girl who challenges her father’s belief that science is not for girls. With support from her brother and teacher, Bose prepares for a science fair to prove that curiosity and talent are not limited by gender. The competition shortlisted five finalists from 14 submissions for a three-day playwriting residency in Ado-Ekiti. During the programme, participants developed their story ideas into full plays with guidance from facilitators and mentors. Angel said the experience helped young girls learn to express themselves and understand the basic elements of playwriting.
