Anyim: Shettima Can Represent Nigeria at UNGA During Tinubu’s Leave

Former Senate President Pius Anyim says President Bola Tinubu’s absence from the United Nations General Assembly should not be a major concern, as Vice-President Kashim Shettima is representing Nigeria while the President is on short leave. Anyim said it is normal for a vice-president or foreign minister to attend the gathering on a country’s behalf. He noted that UNGA activities include the main assembly session as well as scheduled bilateral and multilateral meetings. He added that meetings with other world leaders, including the US president, are usually arranged in advance. According to him, Tinubu’s attendance would be necessary only where he had specific engagements requiring his personal presence.
