Uber Exit: Drivers’ Union Warns Bolt, InDrive Against Alleged Exploitation
The Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria has criticised Uber’s reported decision to end its ride-hailing operations in Nigeria, saying drivers were not given prior notice. The union alleged that Uber operated an exploitative model that ignored workers’ rights and collective bargaining. It said similar practices by Bolt and InDrive have contributed to reduced driver earnings, longer passenger waiting times and fewer active drivers. AUATON urged Bolt and InDrive to recognise the union for collective bargaining and agree to fair pay, welfare packages, safety measures, transparency and decent working conditions. The union also alleged that Uber opposed its registration and efforts to organise drivers.
