Wike Criticises Amaechi Over Claim That Tinubu’s Policies Contributed to Mother’s Death
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has criticised former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi over his claim that the cost of healthcare under President Bola Tinubu’s administration contributed to his mother’s death. Amaechi said during a television interview that rising medication costs made it difficult to afford treatment for his mother, Mary Amaechi, who died in July 2026 at age 89. He said she had been healthy before Tinubu became president. Speaking at a political gathering in Rivers State, Wike accused Amaechi of bringing his late mother into campaign politics ahead of the 2027 election. He questioned why Amaechi, given his years in public office and network of relatives and associates, could not have sought help with her medical expenses. Wike also rejected Amaechi’s suggestion that an ADC victory in 2027 would have pleased his mother, insisting that the party would not win the election.
