Nigerian-Australian Man Charged Over Alleged $5m Disability Benefits Fraud
Foluso Omole, a 38-year-old Nigerian-Australian citizen, has been charged in Australia over allegations of a $5 million fraud involving the National Disability Insurance Scheme. He was arrested at Adelaide Airport on August 14 while allegedly preparing to board a one-way flight to Nigeria. Prosecutors claim he improperly obtained information from an employee of the National Disability Insurance Agency and used it to access fraudulent benefits. Omole, an NDIS coordinator who reportedly operated two businesses, is also accused of transferring part of the alleged proceeds to Nigeria. He faces two charges involving proceeds of crime worth more than $1 million and has not entered a plea. The court denied bail after authorities raised concerns that he could leave Australia.
