According to a joint statement by the UK Home Office and Nigeria’s Interior Ministry, both countries have agreed on a three-year plan to fight organised immigration crime and bolster border security. The agreement was sealed during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s state visit to the UK. Under the framework, Nigeria will strengthen its legal system with tougher penalties for visa fraud and forged documents. The UK will support with training and capacity building for Nigerian border agencies. Both sides will also enhance intelligence sharing through the expanded UK–Nigeria Organised Immigration Crime Unit. The partnership focuses on protecting vulnerable migrants, especially women and children. It also aims to improve research, document verification systems, and monitoring processes.
