Creative Director Josef Adamu on Building a Global Career From Nigerian Roots
Nigerian-Canadian creative director Josef Adamu reflects on a decade working across photography, fashion, film and visual storytelling. He shares how curiosity, self-taught practice and limited resources helped him build a career that later led to major brand work. Adamu also discusses his 2022 Lagos Island short film, “Kimono Kid,” which explores grief, fatherhood and resilience through the story of a young man drawn to kung fu. The project was his first film production in Nigeria and strengthened his interest in telling more personal stories. His advice to emerging creatives is simple: start anywhere. Use what you have, collaborate with people who believe in your ideas and keep developing your voice.
