22-Year-Old Alleges He Was Deceived Into Giving Up a Kidney in Abuja

A 22-year-old man, Samuel Ezekiel, has alleged that a friend deceived him into undergoing a kidney-removal procedure after presenting it as a paid organ donation arrangement. He says his identity was allegedly changed in documents and that he was taken to a hospital in Life Camp, Abuja, for the surgery. Samuel further claims he did not keep the money allegedly paid for the kidney. According to his account, his friend collected the funds, exchanged them and spent them, leaving him without the promised benefit and struggling to return home. The Nigeria Police Force says four suspects, including the alleged recruiter and two doctors, have been arrested in connection with suspected illegal organ harvesting around Abuja and Nasarawa. The suspects have not been convicted, and investigators are still examining the consent documents, the recipient of the kidney, the handling of the money and whether other victims may be involved. The case has renewed concern about the exploitation of vulnerable Nigerians and the need for strict medical, legal and ethical safeguards around organ donation.
