Nigerian, US Forces Eliminate ISIS Commander Abu-Bilal al-Minuki in Borno Operation
The Joint Task Force North-East under Operation Hadin Kai confirmed the death of ISIS senior leader Abu-Bilal al-Minuki during a coordinated offensive in Metele, Borno State. The mission blended sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance and precision air strikes with ground troop support from US Africa Command. Troops struck a fortified hideout in the early hours of May 16. The assault neutralised al-Minuki and several other extremist commanders, while recording no casualties or equipment losses among Nigerian and allied forces. Al-Minuki had been designated a Specially Designated Global Terrorist by the United States for allegedly coordinating funding and operations across the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin. Follow-up clearance and damage assessments are ongoing to dismantle any remaining insurgent cells.
