New Jersey Teacher Sentenced to 12 Years for Abusing 15-Year-Old Student

A former New Jersey special education teacher, Allison Havemann-Niedrach, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for sexually abusing a 15-year-old student over six months in 2024. The court heard that she allegedly became obsessed with the boy and sent him about 25,000 messages. Concerns were raised after another teacher reportedly witnessed inappropriate contact and flirting between them. The victim told the court he spent years believing the abuse was his fault and had considered taking his own life. The judge told Havemann-Niedrach that she had caused the teenager lasting trauma. She must serve at least 85% of her sentence, register as a sex offender and have no contact with the victim or his family. Her teaching certifications have also been revoked.
