My Drug-Dependent Brother Is Threatening Our Family—Can the Police Protect Us?
Good morning, everyone. I urgently need advice about my elder brother, who is 28 and heavily dependent on drugs, including cannabis, crystal meth and other substances. Our family has tried to help him, but his behaviour has become dangerous. He stays awake for long periods, talks through the night and threatens my parents, his partner and others in the house. Last week, he assaulted his partner with a stick until my parents intervened. He also attacked me with a cutlass when I returned home, although I managed to defend myself. Last night, I found him attacking my parents and trying to use weapons against my mother. I stopped him, but he is now threatening to kill everyone in the house. My parents have high blood pressure, and I am afraid he may seriously harm them when I return to the city. We cannot afford rehabilitation at the moment. Can the police arrest or detain someone who is making repeated threats and attacking family members? I need urgent advice on how to keep my parents safe.
