NNPP Rejects Calls to Backdate Resignation Letters of Defecting Elected Members
The New Nigeria Peoples Party says it will not backdate the resignation letters of elected members who left the party without completing its stated exit procedures before the party wrote to INEC. The party said requests to alter resignation records would amount to falsifying official documents. It urged affected members to begin the process again through their wards and ensure the records are properly documented at the national secretariat. NNPP said its earlier letter to INEC affects Kano Governor Abba Yusuf, federal and state lawmakers, and senators elected on its platform who are now linked to other parties. It added that it may also include affected members from Katsina and Jigawa, while maintaining that its position is based on the party constitution and electoral rules.
