Lawyers Allege Police Bias in Hammed Akanbi Murder Trial, Demand Thorough Review
The defence team for Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi claims the police probe into the killings of Prince Demola Akinloye and Sheriff Salami is biased and politically driven. At a press briefing in Lagos, lawyers Adedotun Ajulo and Damian Ukpa accused certain officers of media persecution linked to local land and chieftaincy disputes. They say Akanbi and other community youths have been repeatedly probed without fresh evidence and that murder allegations resurface when power struggles flare. The lawyers also challenge the Special Tactical Squad’s handling of the case and the decision to declare their client wanted without a valid court order. Akanbi’s team notes immigration records place him abroad when the killings occurred and points to pending court challenges against key police actions. They have urged the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, the Inspector-General of Police and the state police commissioner to ensure a fair review and protect their client while the DPP examines the evidence.
