Fuel Subsidy Return Could Stall Northern Projects, Says APC Chairman Yilwatda

APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda says restoring fuel subsidy could reduce funds available for major projects in Northern Nigeria. He cited road construction, gas development, fertiliser supply, compressed natural gas initiatives and student loans as programmes that could be affected. Speaking while receiving former ADC State Assembly candidates who defected to the APC, Yilwatda pointed to projects on the Abuja-Kano, Kano-Maiduguri, Jos-Akwanga, Sokoto-Kebbi, Kano-Daura and Zaria-Danja corridors. He also argued that subsidy removal improved state revenues and helped some states meet salary obligations. The defectors said they joined the APC to support the Federal Government's development agenda ahead of the 2027 elections.
