FG Probes 100MW Power Gap on Ikorodu–Sagamu Corridor, Says Losses Hit ₦120bn
The Federal Government has ordered an investigation into up to 100MW of electricity that may be unaccounted for along the 132kV Ikorodu–Sagamu industrial corridor in Lagos and Ogun states. The losses are estimated to have cost the electricity market about ₦120 billion in one year. Power Minister Joseph Tegbe said the probe will compare electricity transmitted through the corridor with the amount billed and recorded by distribution companies. Authorities will examine possible meter bypassing, illegal connections, consumption-record manipulation and interference with power infrastructure. The Nigerian Independent System Operator reportedly detected unusual loading patterns and major gaps between power supplied and power accounted for. The investigation will use technical and commercial data from transmission and distribution operators to identify where the losses occur. The corridor serves major industrial consumers, making accurate metering and payment essential to the stability of the electricity market. The outcome of the probe could lead to sanctions if electricity theft or commercial leakages are confirmed.
