Pregnant Kaduna Woman Gives Birth in Bandits’ Camp, Freed After ₦77 Million Ransom
A heavily pregnant resident of Gidan Waya in Lere LGA, Kaduna State, was kidnapped by armed bandits and gave birth in their forest camp before her release. Her husband was killed during the attack and two other captives died in captivity. Her testimony came at a victims’ support and trauma counselling event organised by the Christian Awareness Initiative in partnership with Palace Alliance. Survivors, clergy and church leaders from all 23 local government areas attended the two-day programme in Angwan Yelwa, Kaduna. Speakers described how abductees were marched through rough terrain, beaten when they struggled and forced to endure harsh conditions. Negotiations spanned weeks and initial ransom of ₦40 million rose to about ₦77 million before the victims were freed. After their release, survivors received medical care and psychological support. Organisers say that addressing Nigeria’s insecurity will require strong political will and community cooperation.
