Nigeria Must Build Its Wealth at Home, Not Export It
Nigeria continues to export crude oil, agricultural produce and skilled talent while importing refined products, finished goods and foreign solutions. This cycle weakens local industries, limits jobs and leaves many people exposed to inflation and unemployment. The reported Nigeria-US health agreement also raises important questions about data privacy and national sovereignty. Why should Nigerians’ health records be shared with the United States, and what protections are in place? Nigeria needs to invest more in local processing, protect strategic industries and create opportunities that retain talent. We cannot keep serving as a warehouse for raw materials while importing dependency.
