Kaduna Police Explain Tear-Gas Dispersal of ADC Supporters’ Rally
The Kaduna State Police Command says it dispersed supporters of the African Democratic Congress after they allegedly tried to force their way into Murtala Square and later blocked a major road in the city. Police said the crowd’s movement along WAFF Road towards NEPA Roundabout caused severe traffic congestion, confrontation and a breakdown of public order. The command said officers used minimal and proportionate force, including tear gas, to restore normalcy. The ADC governorship candidate, Isa Ashiru, disputed the account. He alleged that party members were attacked by Kaduna State Vigilance Service personnel during a campaign rally, leaving some people injured and others without their phones. He also said the organisers had obtained the required permits. Police maintained that they respect lawful political gatherings but said public assemblies must not obstruct roads or endanger public safety.
