Osun 2026: Coalition Alleges Attempts to Influence Election Security Deployment

A civil society coalition has urged security agencies to remain neutral and professional during Saturday’s Osun State governorship election. The group alleged that political actors, including a former Army Chief, may be attempting to influence the deployment of security personnel in areas seen as opposition strongholds. It asked the military and other security agencies to independently investigate the claims and act on any proven wrongdoing. The coalition also called on officers to protect voters, electoral officials and election materials without bias. It urged political parties, observers and security agencies to reject intimidation and violence and help ensure a peaceful, credible poll.
