Cynthia Lennon, born Cynthia Powell, was a British artist and author best known as John Lennon’s first wife and the mother of Julian Lennon. She met Lennon while studying at Liverpool College of Art, and they married in August 1962 after she became pregnant with their son. The marriage unfolded during the Beatles’ rise to global fame. Cynthia largely kept their family life private while John toured and performed. Their relationship ended in 1968, and their divorce was finalised later that year. Cynthia later wrote memoirs about her life with Lennon, including A Twist of Lennon and John. She also took part in exhibitions and auctions involving Beatles memorabilia. She died of cancer at her home in Mallorca, Spain, in 2015, aged 75. Reports estimated her net worth at about $3 million at the time of her death.
