Bugaje Blasts Tinubu Over Security Failures, Questions Re-election Ambition
Former SDP chairman and ex-House of Reps member Usman Bugaje says President Tinubu’s administration has failed its core duty of protecting lives and property as insecurity worsens across Nigeria. Speaking on Eagle FM’s Frontline programme, Bugaje highlighted a surge in killings, kidnappings and attacks. He noted reports that over 30 traditional rulers in the South-West no longer sleep in their palaces due to security threats. Bugaje pointed out that Nigerians allegedly paid N2.2 trillion in ransom to bandits between 2023 and 2024, exceeding government security budgets. He warned that criminal networks are gaining financial strength at the state’s expense. He also decried farmers abandoning lands in Zamfara, Katsina and Sokoto over fear of attack and alleged that some public officials maintain questionable ties with bandits. Bugaje argued there is no basis for the government to seek another term without first tackling insecurity.
