Iran Executes Man Convicted of Killing Police Officer During 2022 Clashes
Iran has executed a man identified by the judiciary as Danial after he was convicted of killing police officer Reza Ehterami during clashes in Bandar Abbas in 2022. Iranian state media said Ehterami, a third lieutenant in the police emergency unit, died after being hit by a vehicle allegedly driven by Danial during clashes involving police and fuel smugglers. The judiciary said the case was investigated and tried before Iran’s Supreme Court upheld the death sentence. Human rights groups say Iran carries out more executions annually than any country except China.
