Delta’s FAAC Rose 76%, But Inflation Cut Its Real Value
Delta State’s FAAC allocation rose from about ₦370.08 billion in 2022 to ₦649.67 billion in 2025, a 76% increase in naira terms. However, higher allocations do not automatically mean stronger spending power. Average inflation between 2022 and 2025 pushed prices up by an estimated 143% cumulatively. To match the purchasing power of ₦370 billion in 2022, Delta would have needed roughly ₦899 billion in 2025. Its actual allocation was about ₦650 billion. The exchange rate shows the same pressure. Using average official rates, Delta’s FAAC fell from roughly $869 million in 2022 to about $428 million in 2025. The ₦70,000 minimum wage also offers little real improvement over the former ₦30,000 benchmark after inflation. FAAC figures should be assessed beyond nominal naira increases. Inflation, currency depreciation, population growth and wage costs all determine what states can actually deliver for residents.
