Flydubai Captain Recounts Cockpit Attack and Emergency Landing to Modi
Flydubai captain Smit Machchhar has recounted the alleged cockpit attack that left him injured during a flight bound for Tel Aviv. Speaking from his hospital bed in Abu Dhabi, he told Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he realised the aircraft was losing altitude while he was on the cockpit floor. He said he managed to unlock the cockpit door despite his injuries. Passengers and crew members reportedly entered the cockpit, restrained the alleged attacker and allowed pilots travelling as passengers to assist. The Boeing 737, carrying more than 170 people, was diverted to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, for an emergency landing. Machchhar said he drew courage by reciting the Hanuman Chalisa during the crisis. Authorities are still investigating the alleged attack and its motive.
