A Deeper Life Member on Studying in Scotland, Wearing Trousers and Earning a Master’s with an HND
I moved to Scotland in 2021 after receiving admission for a master’s degree in Human Resource Management. With an HND, I faced several rejections before getting the opportunity, and my family helped cover the costs beyond my partial scholarship. Adjusting to life in the UK was not easy. Winter, unfamiliar food, online learning and navigation were all new to me. As a Deeper Life member, I also had to rethink my decision not to wear trousers because of the cold. I came to see it as a matter of personal conviction while still choosing modest dressing. My toughest moment came when I failed a research module twice and had to extend my student visa to retake it. I was pregnant and married at the time, but with support from my family and church community, I passed on my final attempt and graduated a year later. My experience taught me not to let an HND or setbacks limit my ambitions.
