Lagos Cleric, 74, Remanded Over Alleged Defilement of Granddaughter

Lagos Cleric, 74, Remanded Over Alleged Defilement of Granddaughter

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court has remanded a 74-year-old cleric, Joseph Adeniran, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre over the alleged defilement of his nine-year-old granddaughter. The prosecution alleged that the incident occurred on June 18, 2026, at the defendant’s home. A neighbour reportedly noticed bloodstains on the child’s clothing and alerted others after the child allegedly identified her grandfather as responsible. The court did not take Adeniran’s plea. He will remain in custody until September 24, pending legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions.
