Kogi Police Launches Violent Crime Response Unit to Combat Banditry
The Kogi State Police Command has inaugurated a new Violent Crime Response Unit built by the state government. Commissioner Nazir Bello Kankaroffi launched the unit in Lokoja and called on residents to share timely intelligence. Officers in the unit will wear a special uniform and focus on armed banditry, highway attacks, and other violent crimes. They have been charged to maintain discipline, integrity, and to use force lawfully under established rules of engagement. The commissioner stressed the importance of working with sister agencies, community leaders, civil society, and religious groups. He assured that the unit will operate within the law, respect human rights, and protect lives and property. The state administration reaffirms that security of lives and belongings remains its top priority.
