Delta Workers Shut Secretariat After Deputy Director’s Death, Demand Probe

Workers in Delta State shut the Prof. Chike Odozien Secretariat in Asaba after the death of Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a deputy director in the Ministry of Secondary Education. The Nigeria Labour Congress said workers would remain off duty until the state government assures them of their safety and investigates the circumstances of his death. Adeda reportedly died in hospital after a confrontation at the secretariat. Sources alleged that the confrontation involved the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education and that Adeda was assaulted. However, no official finding has confirmed the allegation or established whether the incident caused his death. The Delta State Government said an autopsy and investigation would determine the cause of death and promised that anyone found responsible would face appropriate action.
