Lagos Residents Seek Disability Support, Vocational Training in 2027 Budget

Residents and stakeholders have asked the Lagos State Government to give stronger attention to children living with disabilities, youth vocational training and other vulnerable groups in the 2027 budget. The requests were made during the five-day budget consultative forum held across Lagos’ five divisions, with the final sessions taking place in Ikorodu and Epe. Participants said children with disabilities need better access to schools, learning materials, vocational training and tools to build independent livelihoods. Youth representatives also called for vocational skills to be extended to young people outside tertiary education and included in secondary-school learning. UNICEF representatives said public participation would help the government reflect residents’ priorities in spending on child health, nutrition, education, water, sanitation and immunisation. The state said submissions from the consultations would be documented, reviewed and prioritised as it prepares the 2027 budget. Officials also presented updates on road, drainage and other infrastructure projects in Ikorodu, Epe and Ibeju-Lekki.
