Low Turnout Recorded as Gombe and Kano By-Elections Hold Peacefully
Voter turnout was low in by-elections held in Gombe and Kano, despite the early arrival of Independent National Electoral Commission officials and election materials at several polling units. In Gombe, voters are electing a representative for the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency. Polling began at about 8:50 a.m. in some centres, with officials reporting a generally smooth and peaceful process. Some polling units recorded stronger participation by female voters. Kano is conducting a by-election for the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency, where six political parties fielded candidates. Voters and officials reported adequate security and an orderly exercise. Some voters said the lower turnout was typical of state assembly by-elections.
