Nigerians Are Not Political Property: Put Security Before 2027 Calculations
Political influence is not ownership. Elected and appointed officials may control party structures or hold public office, but they do not own Nigerians or their votes. Every citizen has the constitutional right to decide who leads them. The reported killing of 15 people in an attack in Marte, Borno State, is a painful reminder that security must come before political calculations. Farmers and other residents should not have to risk their lives simply to work and provide for their families. I am tired of hearing who will “deliver” a state in 2027 while Nigerians are worried about surviving today. Leaders should focus on protecting lives, confronting insecurity and earning public trust. Our votes cannot be delivered by political godfathers; the people will decide.
