Rivers State Unveils ₦1.854 Trillion ‘Budget of Resilience’ as Roadmap for Growth

Rivers State Unveils ₦1.854 Trillion ‘Budget of Resilience’ as Roadmap for Growth — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Dr. Ezebunwo Nyeche has hailed Rivers State’s proposed ₦1.854 trillion 2026 budget as a game-changing fiscal plan. He praised Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the State House of Assembly under Speaker Martin Amaewhule for delivering a visionary, people-centred blueprint aimed at peace, stability and inclusive prosperity. The plan allocates over 75% of funds to capital expenditure, prioritising infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, youth development and social investment. With a revenue profile featuring ₦487.6 billion from internally generated revenue and significant FAAC allocations, the budget underscores a commitment to reduced dependence on federal handouts and stronger fiscal discipline. If approved, this “Budget of Resilience” will guide strategic investments to create jobs, improve public services and strengthen institutions. Its success, Dr. Nyeche notes, hinges on transparent implementation and continued collaboration between the executive, legislature and revenue authority.

It's interesting they emphasize resilience and people-centred growth in that massive ₦1.854 trillion proposal this early.

Sounds ambitious, but I'm not convinced that a resilience-focused approach alone guarantees effective use of ₦1.854 trillion.

It would help if the government publishes quarterly progress reports on key budget projects to ensure transparency and accountability.
