Atiku Seeks INEC Explanation Over Appointments to Key Election Departments

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission to explain the appointments of Mrs Oluyemi Titilayo Adeyemi-Showunmi and Dr Lawrence Bayode to two key departments ahead of the 2027 elections. Adeyemi-Showunmi heads the Electoral Operations and Voter Registry Department, while Bayode leads the Information and Communication Technology Department. Atiku said INEC should publish the criteria used for the appointments and demonstrate that due process and merit were followed. He also called on the commission to disclose the companies involved in producing election materials, the procurement process and safeguards for storing and delivering ballots. Atiku warned against electoral manipulation and said Nigerians would resist any attempt to compromise the polls through lawful democratic action.
