NDC Governorship Candidates Reject Babachir Lawal as North-East Leader

Governorship candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe have rejected Babachir Lawal’s appointment as the party’s North-East leader. In a joint statement to the party’s national leadership, the candidates said they were not consulted before the decision was made. They argued that stakeholders who helped build the party across the region should be involved in major appointments. The candidates said their position was collective and final. They urged the NDC leadership to review the appointment and consult affected stakeholders to prevent deeper division ahead of the 2027 general election.
