Tinubu Condemns Xenophobic Violence in South Africa, Calls for ECOWAS Unity

President Tinubu has denounced the recent attacks on Nigerian and other African nationals in South Africa. He reminded fellow African leaders that South Africa’s freedom was secured through the sacrifices of all African nations, including Nigeria. Speaking in Freetown during the ECOWAS summit, Tinubu—represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima—revealed that Nigeria evacuated over 1,490 citizens in seven batches and stands ready to do more. He urged ECOWAS to present a united front and raise the issue at the next African Union Heads of State meeting. The president stressed that such intolerance is unacceptable under any pretext and called on South Africa to honour the spirit of African solidarity that secured its liberation.
