South Africa Requests Proof of Alleged Ayra Starr Visa Denial
South Africa has asked for evidence supporting claims that Nigerian singer Ayra Starr and her team were denied visas ahead of planned shows in Johannesburg and Cape Town in February 2024. South Africa’s Consul-General to Nigeria, Prof. Bobby Moroe, said immigration authorities found no record of a visa application or rejection involving the singer’s team. He requested the applicants’ names and reference numbers to allow the matter to be verified. The concert organiser, Steyn Entertainment, had said it could not secure the required visas despite several efforts and cancelled the shows, promising ticket holders refunds. The dispute has renewed calls in Nigeria for reciprocal visa measures against South African entertainers if the alleged denials are confirmed.
