Umahi Orders Arrest of Hartland MD Over Alleged N14bn Benin–Onitsha Road Delay
Works Minister David Umahi has ordered the arrest of the managing director of Hartland Nigeria Limited over the alleged failure to complete an 11-kilometre section of the Benin–Onitsha Expressway after receiving about N14 billion. During an inspection of the Agbor–Asaba–Onitsha corridor in Delta State, Umahi said the contractor had completed only about 40 per cent of the agreed work between Summit Junction and the Head Bridge. He directed ministry officials to review the firm’s payment records, begin recovery efforts and impose sanctions where necessary. The minister also ordered urgent filling and stone-base repairs around the Head Bridge to ease congestion. He warned federal works controllers and contractors against leaving road sections impassable, and raised concerns about vandalism of components on the Niger Bridge.
