Anambra Woman Alleges Threats to Husband After Petition Against Uli Security Operatives
Mrs Ifeoma Onyemee of Uli, Ihiala LGA, Anambra State, has alleged that two operatives of the Agunechemba security outfit are trying to silence her husband, Chimobi Onyemee, after he petitioned authorities over alleged abuses in the community. She said her husband’s July 24 petition to the Anambra police and the governor’s adviser on community security accused the operatives of running illegal detention cells, extortion, arson and extrajudicial killings. These allegations have not been independently verified. According to her, Chimobi was later arrested over an allegation that he murdered a Uli resident in 2022. She described the accusation as a retaliation intended to cover up the claims in his petition and appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, police authorities and rights groups to intervene. The Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu confirmed that Chimobi is in custody but gave no further details. One of the accused operatives said he had been informed that Chimobi was linked to criminal activity in the community.
