Energy Consultants Withdraw Call for Ojulari’s Removal After NNPCL Review

Energy Consultants Withdraw Call for Ojulari’s Removal After NNPCL Review

The Association of Energy Policy and Development Consultants has withdrawn its earlier call for the removal of NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer Bayo Ojulari. The group said its first assessment relied on incomplete information and selective interpretations of energy-security spending, pipeline protection costs and other financial obligations. After reviewing more documents and consulting industry stakeholders, it said it found a high level of transparency in NNPCL’s disclosures. The association apologised to Ojulari and said its previous allegation of secrecy was unfair. However, it maintained that legislative and independent scrutiny of NNPCL finances should continue, while urging the company to keep publishing clear and comprehensive financial statements.

Exactly, a clearer public breakdown would make the reversal easier to understand. No need for mystery-season energy.

It is notable that the group acknowledged incomplete information instead of simply maintaining its original position.

Withdrawing the call is fair, but selective interpretations should have been checked more carefully before demanding anyone's removal.

The useful next step is a transparent summary of the review, so the public can compare the initial claims with the corrected assessment.
